Officer 1 Bandmaster Dean Waller BMus(Hons) LRSM RM
Dean was born and educated in Nottinghamshire prior to joining the Royal Marines Band Service in 1986 whereupon he studied Oboe and Cor Anglais under John Williams at the Royal Marines School of Music.
On completion of Training Dean served firstly with the Commando Training Centre Band and then as Principal Oboist of both Plymouth and Portsmouth Bands. A succession of courses and promotions followed resulting in selection for the Bandmasters Course and subsequent promotion to Warrant Officer Bandmaster.
Prior to his arrival at the Royal Marines School of Music as WO1 Bandmaster (Training) in May 2009, Dean previously held appointments as WO2 Bandmaster (Training) Royal Marines School of Music, WO2 Bandmaster Plymouth Band, WO1 Bandmaster Scotland Band and WO1 Bandmaster Plymouth Band.
Dean has had a varied and exciting career as an instrumentalist, instructor and now as a conductor and arranger. Most recently he has had the honour of providing arrangements for the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Mountbatten Festival of Music held at The Royal Albert Hall in London and continues to augment his arrangement portfolio in a variety of styles and disciplines in support of The Royal Marines School of Music and wider Royal Marines Band Service.
In his spare time Dean conducts the Emsworth Concert Band and undertakes an array of engagements and arranging projects for the wind band, marching band and orchestra.
Away from the musical-sphere Dean’s interests include astronomy, horology, renaissance and baroque art and watching the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
