Drum Major G Scollick Royal Marines
Following in his Fathers’ footsteps, Drum Major Graham ‘Scol’ Scollick
joined the Royal Marines as a Bugler on the 5th September 1988 aged
16.
During his time in Training Company he was awarded the Premier
trophy for best drummer and subsequently, on passing his B3 examination
in the April of 1990, was drafted to the Staff Band Royal Marines
Deal.
After a brief time of only a year with the Staff Band, he joined
the Flag Officer Scotland and Northern Ireland Band, now Royal Marines
Band Scotland, in April of 1991.
Whilst serving there he visited Northern Ireland several times,
qualifying for the General Service Medal. He embarked on the West
Indies Tour aboard HMS Fearless and the Toronto Military Tattoo
in 1992, as well as performing at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo,
the Royal Tournament and other Massed Bands Engagements.
1998 saw a move south to the Band of HM Royal Marines Commando
Training Centre at Lympstone. Here he passed the Junior Command
Course and in 2000 he was successful in passing the Drum Majors
Course, becoming the Assistant Drum Major for the Band.
After promotion to Corporal in 2003, he made a return to Scotland
in order to cover Drum Major duties and following a brief spell
at BRNC joined RM Band Plymouth in December of 2003.
Qualifying B1 in September of 2004 he returned to the RM Band Plymouth
and was appointed Drum Major of the Band in January 2005. In August 2007 Graham was appointed the Drum Major at the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth.
When asked, the highlight of his career undoubtedly has been performing
as Drum Major at the 2005 Edinburgh Military Tattoo with the Massed
Bands.
Graham currently resides in Exmouth, Devon.
