Major S Blair RM
Drum Major Steven Blair was born and raised in Ashington, a small mining town, Northumberland. He joined the Royal Marines Band Service in 1991 at the Royal Marines School of Music in Deal. He successfully completed one and a half years training and was drafted to the Staff Band Royal Marines Deal as a bugler within the Corps of Drums.
After a brief time of only six months with the Staff Band, he joined Flag Officer Scotland and Northern Ireland Band, now Royal Marines Band Scotland, in April of 1994.
Whilst serving there he embarked on the West Indies Tour aboard HMS Fearless as well as performing at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and also the Royal Tournament. He also embarked on another West Indies Tour onboard HMS Ocean and has also visited America, the Falkland Islands, South America, Iceland, and also has been lucky enough to visit Australia twice.
After passing his Junior Command Course, in 2001 he was to achieve a distinguished pass on the 2004 Drum Major’s course. After serving a year as the assistant Drum Major of the Royal Marines Band Scotland. He was drafted to the Royal Marines Band Plymouth in 2005 as the assistant Drum Major.
Qualifying B1 in March of 2007 he also passed his Senior Command course in July 2007. In July 2007 Steven was appointed the Drum Major to the Band of HM Royal Marines Commando Training Centre at Lympstone, Devon.
He is married to Nicky and currently resides, along with his two sons, and a Basset Hound in the Plymouth area.
