Elizabeth Le Grove BMus (Hons), MPhil, EdD, FRCO(CHM), PGCE
Elizabeth grew up in Saxmundham, Suffolk. She studied music at the University of Wales, Bangor, gaining a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree in 1980. She then spent three years as Assistant Organist of Bangor Cathedral, before taking the Postgraduate Certificate in Education course at Durham University. She passed this course in 1984, along with the examinations for Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists (FRCO) and the Royal College of Organists’ diploma in choir training and conducting (CHM). She was later awarded the degree of MPhil from the University of Wales for musical analysis.
She has taught in schools, colleges and universities. For some years she was Head of Music Studies at North East Worcestershire College of Further Education in Bromsgrove. Here, she taught on the pre-professional music course, a B Tec National Diploma in Performing Arts, in-service training courses for music teachers and professional music diploma courses.
In 1996 she was appointed to her present post of Academic Professor at the Royal Marines School of Music. In this post she teaches on the Bandmasters’ and Sergeants’ courses. She is also course leader of the BMus honours degree course which is offered by the Royal Marines School of Music and validated by the University of Portsmouth.
In 2004 she was awarded a Doctorate in Education (EdD) by the Institute of Education, University of London. The tile of her thesis was Music Diplomas: Their Position Within the Context of Higher Education. She plays the church organ regularly for services and concerts, frequently performing with the trumpeter Paul Hart.
