Recorded by the Royal Marines Association Concert Band this commemoration CD marks the closure of the Royal Naval Hospital Haslar which provided invaluable service and support to the Royal Navy since 1753. This album has an international as well as a maritime flavour because it is designed to be a fitting tribute in music to Haslar's distinguished history which covers the Napoleonic wars of the 18th and 19th centuries to the Falklands conflict in 1982, and including the significant medical assistance given to British and American servicemen during WWII, in particular following the D Day landings on the French coast in 1944. The programme of music has been carefully selected to reflect Haslar's remarkable story and to recall the numerous doctors, surgeons, medical branch and sick berth staff, espcially the members of the legendary QARNNS and Voluntary Aid Detachments who were trained and equipped for their demanding roles worldwide supported by Haslar's civilian staff.
