Royal Navy

Introduction

You should have already seen the Action Music Brochure, which describes life as a musician in the Royal Marines, Audition Time is intended to give you a step-by-step guide through the two or three days you will spend at your Audition at the Royal Marines School of Music.

The Royal Marines Band Service prides itself on being probably the most versatile group of musicians in the world. To achieve this it demands a lot from it's musicians. You will have a military as well as musical role to play, and you must be physically fit and be able to take discipline. There's a certain attitude of mind that we're looking for too - the mental strength and determination to hang on when the going gets tough. Are you prepared to practice for six hours a day, in addition to rehearsals and tuition? Call it 'stickability' if you wish, but your going to need all you can summon up. Your musical ability and potential will be thoroughly tested during your Audition, as well as your strength, stamina, determination and character. Don't forget an Audition is a two-way process. It's a chance for you, the person applying for the job, to see if you like it just as much as it's a chance for us to look at you. If you have questions ASK THEM; it's your future that's on the line. If, at the end of it all, you really think it would be a mistake to join us if we offered you a place then SAY SO - but do think about it carefully.
