commence Phase 2 Musical Training. This structured and intensive
2 year course includes professorial lessons for each instrument
of study per week, academic tuition and, when trained to an acceptable

performance on Bb bugle, Eb herald trumpet and military snare drum.
Throughout the course, progress is closely monitored by regular
assessments, both formative (to ensure progression through the curriculum)
and summative (to provide accurate and detailed information about
a students’ current level of achievement).
In addition to practical skills, individuals are required to undertake
various academic lessons including harmony, theory, history of music
and aural training; all of which are monitored by-way-of regular
assessments. Dedicated professors and uniformed staff, teaches each
subject; therefore ensuring a common and supportive approach to
a students’ progress.
Throughout the course there is an opportunity to attend master
classes, clinics, conferences and specific concerts; all of which
help inspire the students’ performances. Furthermore, within the
Royal Marines School of Music, individuals are provided with a practice
room, specific training aids and a Research Centre which includes
CDs, musical literature and listening facilities - all in a relaxed
and comfortable environment.
In view of this innovative, fresh and positive approach to Buglers
Training, the Royal Marines School of Music has an exclusive partnership
with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, enabling
Buglers the opportunity to attain a Diploma on their instruments
of study. The training received at all levels is a clear indicator
of the determination to maintain the highest and recognised musical
standards.
