Week 2 Term 2
The week started off bright and early with the whole of Training Company running three miles around the Dockyard in allotted times. The whole of our troop passed, so no one was on remedial ‘phys’ for the rest of the week, which was a bonus. After ‘phys’ it was back to work as per normal practising away in the practice rooms / ‘cells’.
The afternoon brought some happy faces as the Buglers passed a Drum Parade inspection and came out for Military Drill with smiles. Later on that afternoon the rest of the Musicians had wind band with DOM(T) who was apparently in quite a comical mood, even telling the occasional joke here and there.
Tuesday was the day of the dreaded Rounds! As per usual we all waited and formed up before lunch to hear the results but it so happened we had two sets of results from two different people telling us two different things! (How does that work?)
We were all a bit on edge that afternoon and so, just in case we had an inspection, lockers were dusted and items refolded and the whole of the block was cleaned from head to toe, until the Wing Captain told us we didn’t have Extra Rounds afterall. Never mind, at least everything was sparkling.
Wednesday brought yet more practice in ‘cells’ and also a variety of academic lessons including Elements, History and Aural, mainly with Prof. Evans. During History the first main essay for the Musicians was set, whereas the Buglers are on their fourth! This meant that the rest of the week was spent researching various instruments and the repertoire they have, in order to fulfil the criteria of the essay.
Thursday and Friday were spent pretty much the same as the rest of the week, practising in ‘cells’ or having the odd Professor or Instructor’s lesson. Friday finished off the week for the Musicians with recitals in the Concert Hall and the Buglers were tested on the words to the Regimental Marches whilst eating two Rich Tea biscuits each! Hopefully the Buglers’ ‘grot’ (accommodation) will be as exciting next week!!

Monday started off as usual with the whole of Training Company doing a three-mile run. After the run it was back in our practice rooms / ‘cells’ for a normal day’s work, with wind band to finish the day off. During the evening the whole troop was busy cleaning for Rounds and OC’s Parade the next day.
Tuesday morning was an early one, finishing off cleaning for Rounds and getting ready for the OC’s inspection. When we turned up at the school for OC’s Parade we found out that, much to our delight, it was cancelled due to rain.
Wednesday was a normal day for us in our ‘cells’, practicing our instruments, but it was broken up slightly with either aural, harmony, history or elements lessons.
Thursday again was a normal practice day for us, with a drill period just before lunch with our new drill instructor. By now all the theory lessons were running and that broke the day up and made it more interesting for all of us.
Friday started off with a troop PT session then it was in our ‘cells’ again to do some practice. After lunch we listened to some recitals in the Concert Hall which were very good. We then had Training Band in the concert hall which went very well, and after that we finished and went home.
