Week 1 Term 2

After 2 weeks away on leave. Troop 1/07 returned to the School of Music, fit and eager to get back to work. Of course everyone maintained their fitness over the festive period and tried not to over indulge, so Operation ‘Wide - Awake’ was a breeze……..

CSgt Hope informed Training Company that every Monday we would take a three-mile run to be completed within 22 minutes for males, 25 minutes for females. Failure to pass would result in remedial ‘phys’ for the rest of the week. Welcome back chaps!

The rest of the day was spent re-acquainting ourselves with the contents of those odd shaped boxes that had been hiding in the corner for two weeks.

Tuesday morning saw us return to the Parade Ground for our first Training Band of the term. Armed with our Goretex jackets we ploughed through the wet weather and got on with doing what we came to do. That afternoon we hit the pool to learn some trouser related survival techniques as part of our military continuation training. All in all a very wet day.

The rest of the week saw us getting back into regular routine at the school, with lessons, rehearsals, drill, etc. The whole troop now fit, ready and eager to improve.

Monday morning arrived very quickly after our two weeks of Christmas leave, and it was definitely a shock to the system when Colour Sergeant (CSgt) Hope informed the whole school that we had a three-mile run first thing.

He also told us that failure to complete the run would result in remedial ‘phys’ for the rest of the week. This didn’t sound too nice at the time so we all worked hard to pass. However, the unfortunate ones that failed have informed us that remedial ‘phys’ was actually quite good fun.

Tuesday started with a very wet and windy Training Band in which we all got soaked and had trouble hearing what was going on. This became clear when we missed the bass drum beat (signal to halt) and marched into the back of each other.

Tuesday afternoon brought us Recreational Training at HMS Temeraire’s swimming pool where we completed a small swimming test that consisted of jumping off the three-metre driving board in our CS95’s (combat uniform) and learning how to use our trousers as a buoyancy aid.

We all started our academic lessons this week which involve harmony, history, aural and elements.

Wednesday dragged by with a whole day in our practice rooms / ‘cells’ and Thursday was similar but with an enjoyable drill session with Corporal (Cpl) Hunt to break up the day.

Friday came quickly and began with circuits in the gym for PT and a Training Band music session with the Bandmaster in the afternoon. Then it was time to enjoy the weekend off and prepare ourselves for OC’s parade on Tuesday 15th!
