Week 12
This week brought our second week of music training, sitting in our cells practising given tasks and trying to build our stamina back up.
Every Tuesday we have rounds, which is when our rooms and communal areas are inspected. So Monday night we were up brassoing anything metal, boot polishing drains and borders, basically making sure that everything was immaculate and looking like new again. Luckily this week, everyone passed so there were no extra locker inspections or kit musters.
On Tuesday morning we had parade band with the Bugle Major. This was the first time that we had marched with our instruments, so things became more complicated. All instrument categories have to hold their instruments identical to each other and have to be quick off the mark when an order is given. (Don’t think we are quite up to standard yet!)
On Wednesday the majority of us went to Lympstone for the CTCRM Cross Country Championships. The ladies had to run one lap of the 4 km and the men had to run two laps. Everyone made it safely round but Musn Eskerett diverted off in the wrong direction after the finish line. Apparently this was intended, but we all know him far to well by now. As a Troop, we did really well, especially in the women’s team where Musn Hurley was awarded 1st place, Musn Gardener, from Phase 2, 2nd place and Musn Maddock 3rd place. Everyone received a medal and Musn Spain and Hurley were awarded with nice ‘his and her’ Timberland jackets.
On Thursday the clarinet section had the privilege of playing in the concert band. This was good experience and I think we can all say that more practice is needed.
On Friday we were all given our first set of marching music which was exciting. Now all we have to do is know them off by heart.
