Week 1
A sunny Monday afternoon for some was their last day of freedom before hitting the books once more and returning back to school.
For the 30 new recruits of Troop 1/07 however, it was a day of tearful goodbyes, arduous train journeys and for some (Musn Gregory) a 5 minute walk down the road.
We arrived from our various starting points at Portsmouth Harbour. We crammed our kit in the truck, ourselves in the minibus and headed towards HMS Nelson, our new home for the next three years or so.
After briefly popping in to our accommodation, grabbing some bedding and starting the unpacking process, we were attested into the Royal Marines Band Service. Following various introductions and briefings, it was back to the accommodation for lessons on room standards and bed making.

The rest of week one held much in store for us ‘Bandies-to-be’! Lots of lessons on ironing, polishing, washing, cleaning, folding, re-folding and many more fun treats!
That, mixed in with two PT sessions, an introductory drill session and numerous lectures, it has been a fairly busy week.
Most of us have already had some ups and downs, just a taste of what is to come!
Any free time we’ve had has been spent folding uniforms and squaring away our kit ready for our first full kit inspection on Monday morning.
As I write this on Sunday evening, some of us may or may not still be frantically packing our kit away (Musn Chadwick). On well, best of luck to ya. Bring on the rest!
