
Sergeant Laurence 'Scho' Schofield RM
Unit Platoon Weapons Instructor
Sgt Schofield joined the Royal Marines in 1993 passing out with 663 Troop.
He has served in 42 Commando, FPGRM and Commando Training Centre Royal Marines. He is currently the UPW1 within the Military Training Team for RMBS located at HMS Nelson.
His operational experiences consist of three tours of Northern Ireland from 1994 - 2002 and during the war in Iraq in 2003, with 42 Cdo.
Scho has worked in every climate around the world from the Arctic of Norway, the deserts of the Middle East and the Jungles of the Far East. He has also sampled the delights of a number of countries including Brunei, Bahrain, Malaysia, Thailand, Sweden, Norway, France, Germany and Spain.
During his time at Commachio Group, ( now Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines ) he was involved in numerous security operations and training exercises before returning to CTCRM. Whilst at CTCRM, as a Corporal Platoon Weapons Instructor 2nd Class, he spent two years as an instructor on a Training Team taking four recruit troops through Commando training from start to finish. Three years later he returned, after successfully completing both his PW1’s Specialisation and Senior Command Course, as a Troop Sergeant and took a further three troops through Commando training.
He has specialised as a Platoon Weapons instructor 1st class, is a qualified Sniper and Machine-gun Gun-line commander. He is both Arctic and Jungle Warfare trained and is also a Military Ski Instructor.
Scho has been married to Nicky for eleven years and with their son Luke, lives in Suffolk. Most of his spare time is taken up with his hobbies, skydiving and motorcycling but to relax, likes nothing more than to spend time landscaping his garden.
