RM Band Service Female Instructor

Band Corporal (BdCpl) Mel Bocking joined the Royal Marines Band Service in September 1992, being one of the first girls to join.  She trained at the Royal Marines School of Music in Deal Kent and completed her training in 1995 where she joined the Portsmouth “Royal” Band.  BdCpl Bocking’s career in the Band Service has taken her to places such as Sweden, Norway, Hong Kong, Poland, Russia, Australia, Canada, USA and Estonia.  BdCpl Bocking has also had to undertake her secondary role as part of the Royal Marines Band Chemical Decontamination Unit in Iraq during the conflict in 2003 also undertaking various other roles whilst in theatre with 3 Commando Brigade Medical Squadron.  BdCpl Bocking also deployed on RFA Argus in March 2006 for a training exercise. A keen sports person she represented the Royal Navy at Athletics and Cross Country in America and Portugal.  She is currently on temporary loan from the Plymouth Band to undertake the role as a Female Instructor in the RMSoM Military Training Team.
