Bugler Joanna Nelson was born in Plymouth but now lives just outside Portsmouth with her mum, dad, brother and boyfriend. Having just turned 23 she has just finished a Degree in Physical Education with Qualified Teaching status from the University of Chichester, but felt the Band Service was more for her. Before joining the Royal Marines Band Service she was a member of HMS Collingwood Volunteer Band and Horndean Band playing a variety of instruments from drum and bugle, flute, saxophone and xylophone, and also attending many important engagements such as the Last Royal Tournament, Naval Volunteer Band Festivals and many Remembrance Sunday Parades.
Her other hobbies, outside of music, include horse riding (she has a horse called Brandy) and playing various team sports including netball and volleyball.
