She joined her secondary school’s jazz and concert band at the age of 11 and toured America and Canada. She was also a member of the Church Lads and Girls Brigade band and in July 2006, toured New York with the National Band of the Brigade. She completed her A levels prior to joining the Band Service and chose to join the Royal Marines Band Service after hearing the Massed Bands play at the Mountbatten Festival of Music in the Royal Albert Hall London.

Musn Merrell comes from Brightlingsea in Essex. Prior to joining the Royal Marines Band service she played flute, piccolo, alto saxophone and piano and was accepted into the Band Service on alto sax and violin.
