Musn Maxine Cruise was 17 years old on joining the Royal Marines Band Service. Prior to joining the School of Music she lived on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent with her 10 year old brother Guy.
From a very young age she wanted to be in the Army but aged 10 she joined the St John’s Ambulance Band Service and realised she wanted a career in music. She started to have trumpet lessons with her grandad who used to be in the Royal Marines Band Service. He told her about all the great times he had and she decided this was the path for her.
For years she worked hard, practising her instruments everyday and in 2006 she had been entered for an audition for a place in the Royal Marines Band Service. Unfortunately she was unsuccessful due to limited spaces, but she wasn’t just going to give up, so in 2007 she re-auditioned and was successful and offered a place in troop 2007! “Now I am training to be a Royal Marines Musician, something that I am very proud of and have wanted for years.”
