Musician Gray 02 - 07 June 2003

Monday
After the weekend we were all ready to start another week at the RMSM, which started with a session of physical training, in which we went on a run so we could train for our BFT coming up soon.

After lunch were M3 recitals, which are for students that are just about to pass-out. They give a 20 min long recital which is marked by the DOM(T) and the Bandmaster, and the mark they receive goes towards their final result at the end of term. In the evening we prepared our accommodation for Rounds the following morning.

Tuesday
This morning we were up bright and early finishing off Rounds, like making beds properly, dusting and leaving the place tidy for the inspection. If the standards are not high enough we are told what we failed so that we can make a better effort next week. Today at 1400 I had a professors lesson on the string bass, which included my mid-term assessment which didn't go as well as I had hoped, but now I have to work harder next time. Tonight is the night we have a rehearsal for Concert Band, and we started to prepare music for Open Day on 31 July. Open Day is a Passout day for the M3 students leaving and is held in the Guildhall, Portsmouth.

Wednesday
On parade rehearsal this morning we started to look at the routine for the Open Day Beat Retreat. Wednesday afternoon is for recreational training, we can do our RT or we can do whatever the PTI's have arranged, this afternoon we went down to Southsea Common as the weather was hot and had a game of rounders.

Thursday
This morning started off with another session of physical training. Today we did a circuit in the gym, which everyone enjoyed so much! Today the Tuba professor was in so I had tuba lesson in which we were looking at music for my T5 exam which is coming up in about 4 weeks.

On a Thursday night we would usually rehearse orchestra but tonight we had the night off, which gave us the opportunity to come in and do some private practice!

Friday
We started with Parade Band this morning, which started with an inspection from the Drum Major. When we finished Parade I had a bass guitar assessment, in which I got a 'B' grade, my first one, hopefully not the last. The rest of the morning was spent practising for my exams. In the afternoon we had a rehearsal for orchestra which was taken by the DOM(T), Major Best.

Saturday
Today Musn Dawkins, Bug Lowe, Bug Keeping and myself decided we would go to Thorpe Park. We were aiming to leave at about 0830 but didn't manage it until 1000. When we eventually got there, it was a really good day out, a good time was had by all!
