Musician Gray 16 - 20 February 2004

Monday
This morning started with a session of PT at the back, which involved a warm up lap with a few stretches. Then we were told we had to run 12 laps in our fastest time, just what we needed after the weekend!

After a quick shower and change it was over to the School of Music for a normal day's practise.

Tuesday
Tuesday mornings we get a bit of a lie in as we don't have to fall in till 0815, but before we fall in we had to make our rooms as tidy and dust free as we could, for the NCO's to check them later on. Once over at the School I did a quick warm up on my tuba before a prof lesson at 0845 with Prof Andy Cresci. After stand easy there was a dance band rehearsal in which I was playing bass guitar.

After lunch I was involved in a Tuba Quartet rehearsal, which we are rehearsing for a recital we have coming up.

Tuesday evening we usually have a Concert Band rehearsal, but tonight we went down to Portsmouth Guildhall to watch the Massed Bands rehearse for the Mountbatten Festival of Music.

Wednesday
This morning started with Parade Band which began with an inspection of our white belts and pith helmets, which most people passed. When Parade Band finished everyone was trying to warm up their hands for the next hour.

In the afternoon we had recreational training, some of us went swimming, playing squash or crazy golf. After we finished all that we had the rest of the day to ourselves.

Thursday
Another session of phys to start the day off on the freezing cold parade square.

Today I had by Bass Guitar Assessment which went OK I think. In the evening we had a rehearsal for Concert Band which we played a 20th Century piece of music and it wasn't the easiest piece I've ever played, so after rehearsal most people went to the bar for a well deserved drink.

Friday
Parade Band again this morning, but this time we were in the Concert Hall having a musical rehearsal with the Bandmaster.

After lunch I had another assessment, but this time it was on my string bass. This went really well and hopefully I'll get a good mark. We also had a Concert Band rehearsal in the afternoon at which we started looking at a new piece for the concert coming up in March.

Then at 1620 everyone went back over to our accommodation looking forward to the weekend ahead.
