This morning, the School of Music held a Remembrance Parade for the 11 ranks
of the Royal Marines Band Service killed in the Deal bombing in 1989. All ranks
of the School of Music were fell in on the parade at 0820 and we were to sound
the Last Post at 0828. 1 minutes silence followed, where we remembered who we
are, and what we represent.
The following days of the week were peaceful, meaning that it was a normal routine.
With no forthcoming gigs or events our work time was left free to prepare for
exams. Exams are definitely not in short supply at the moment. This being Troop
101 Buglers final term we have a lot to do before Christmas, when we pass out
of training. To mention but a few we have our mid term assessments coming up
and then our final B3 exam. During the same week as that we have our grade 8
Guildhall snare drum exam and also Bugler Keeping and I have a recital to do
where we will be performing the Hommel Suite - which we are really, really,
really looking forward to. However, it's not all doom and gloom. On the 15 October
the Corps of Drums and a jazz quartet are flying out to Cyprus for seven days
for Trafalgar and HMS Pickle nights. This is the second year running we have
been invited to the island for this occasion.
On Wednesday this week we went bowling at Gunwharf for RT. Unfortunately I didn't
want to break any nails, so I had to settle with last place. The lads at the
school have been in training all week for RT next week for the students V instructors
boot match (football). Given most of the instructors at school are the wrong
side of 40, I shouldn't imagine that the lads are going to have too much of
a problem.
