Musician Gray 3 - 8 November 2003

Monday

Monday morning started with a PT session in the gym at 0730. This mornings session wasn't taken by the PTI's they were away in Wales on AT, instead it was taken by Vicky Davies from the Portsmouth Band, which was different... After a quick shower and change it was over to the School for some practise. Today I had no professors lessons, which gave me the whole day for some well needed practise after the weekend.

Tuesday

Tuesday morning is rounds morning, so everyone is up making the beds, making sure there is no dust anywhere in the room and hoovering the floors. Then at 0815 we fall in and march over to the School of Music. This morning I had my first professor lesson of the week, this was on the Double Bass, which I have my assessment on next week, so we ran through all my pieces, scales, studies and then did some sight reading, just like a mock assessment.

Tuesday night we had an orchestra rehearsal in which we started looking at music for the Christmas Concert.

Wednesday

Parade Band morning, but this morning we had an inspection of our white helmets, white belts, cross strap and pouches and our brasses. After the inspection, about 20 of us had been picked up and had extra parades later on that night. We then started looking at a new march we are playing for the New Entries Passout in 4 weeks.

Wednesday afternoon we would normally have RT, but as a punishment for the phys session on Monday morning we had to pick all the leaves up off the Parade Square, dust everywhere in the School of Music and make sure it was spotless for when the Drum Major inspected it. After that we had an inspection of our individual practise cells.

Thursday

Thursday morning starts with another PT session, our PTI's aren't back from Wales yet so this mornings session was taken by the Navy PTI's from HMS Nelson. This session went a lot better than Mondays one.

On Thursdays the Bass Guitar prof was in and my lesson involved looking at Dance Band Music, Big Band Music, assessment pieces and not forgetting scales.
Thursday night we have a Concert Band rehearsal, tonight the students on the M2s Course came over to the School to take the rehearsal, because they are conducting at the Denmead Concert we've got coming up in 2 weeks.

Friday

We started this morning with Parade Band where we started looking at putting the display together for the Passout. After Parade Band I had an aural lesson where we are preparing for our M3 exam coming up. During Friday lunchtimes the choir had a rehearsal in which we started looking at Christmas music for the concert. Then after that I had a Tuba lesson with Andy Cresci, at the moment I am learning to play the Bb tuba which is bigger than the Eb tuba I normally play. Then at the end of the day we heard the bugle and everyone was happy and looking forward to the weekend.
