Sgt Pete Baldwin

Sgt Pete Baldwin joined training in 1987 and successfully completed training in Jan 1988. His first draft was to Y Company 45 Commando Royal Marines where he visited Norway six times and completed AWT (Arctic Warfare Training), MWT (Mountain Warfare Training) and a Military Ski Instructors course. During his time with 45 Commando he also completed a tour of Northern Ireland, two Mediterranean trips on HMS Fearless and a six month operational deployment in Belize. After successfully completing a Junior Command Course in 1993 Sgt Baldwin joined K Company 42 Commando Royal Marines. It was during this time that he took part in the successful attempt to break the world record for the longest rope slide. A distance of one and a quarter miles off Mount Gibraltar in Canada. It took Sgt Baldwin just 90 seconds to cover the distance and the event was featured on BBC's Christmas Record Breaker programme in 1994. While at 42 Commando he also completed two more Norway deployments and completed his JWT (Jungle Warfare Training) in the jungles of Brunei. Sgt Baldwin then joined Commachio Group Royal Marines in 1996 where he again went to Northern Ireland for a six months tour of duty attached to SNONI (Senior Naval Officer Northern Ireland), working in the boarding parties in Carlingford Loch. In 1997 Sgt Baldwin successfully passed his PW2's (Platoon Weapons Instructor Second Class) at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines Lympstone. He then went on to training recruits at Commando Training Centre taking 3 troops through training. From the Commando Training Centre Sgt Baldwin joined the Royal Marines School of Music in August 1999. Since then Sgt Baldwin has taken one New Entry Troop through basic training and is enjoying the daily challenge of instructing troop 1/00 in their weapons training, feildcraft and signals amongst the many other military skills they need to learn.
