My name is Musn Mark Walker and I am in my 6th term at the School of Music.
It was back to work bright eyed and bushy tailed for myself and the other members
of Trg Coy who had attended the Canford Summer School over leave. It was good
to see everyone again but by lunchtime it was like we'd never been away. The
usual routine of PT and practise continues to grind on, though it was clear
to everyone that leave had taken its toll in our 'chops' after our first full
Wind Band rehearsal of the term on Tuesday night.
Parade Band on Wednesday morning was similarly lethargic but after a few words
of gentle encouragement(!) from the Drum Major we began to buck up our ideas.
Recreational Training periods have started to become more novel, which is welcomed
by even the most cynical members of the school, and we enjoyed an afternoon
on Southsea Common playing softball. Aaah... it was just like being on holiday
again.
Thursday morning saw the ever popular sponsored prayers return to the school
and we were treated to a rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus by Brass Quintet.
By Thursday evening we were back in full swing and finding our feet again during
Wind Band rehearsals preparing for our forthcoming engagements.
Friday morning saw the final Parade Band period of the week, and a vast improvement
after Wednesday's poor showing. Alas, joy of joys, the weekend was upon us!
A quiet first week back at the School of Music but I'm sure that will change
in the coming months
watch this space!
