Monday
This week began with the usual hour of PT but due to the recent departure of
Sgt Griffin, today's session would be taken by Sgt Groundsall where he put us
through a fitness test to determine the levels of everyone's fitness. On completion
of this the morning continued with individual lessons and ensemble activities.
During the lunchtime recitals Musn Hearman, who is due to join Dartmouth Band,
performed Beethoven's Romanze with the chamber orchestra as a dress rehearsal
for Open Day and did very well.
Tuesday
Rounds morning, the usual fight for the Hoover etc. I'm sure you all know how
it goes by now! Today would also be the start of many instrumental examinations.
I sat my cornet examination in the late afternoon and was quite satisfied with
the performance.
Wednesday
The Parade Band rehearsed the Open Day display on the lawns around the back
of the Officers' Mess. It's certainly getting better and I'm sure the public
will love it on the day. The afternoon was spent cleaning the outside areas
of the School in preparation for the PDM's Cocktail Party. The Parade Band put
on a small display for the guests and favourable comments came from those who
attended.
Thursday
No PT this morning which was a delight for most (but not all!) of Training Company.
Prayers took its place and Musn Hearman had another opportunity to perform his
Open Day piece. (It keeps getting better)
The remainder of the day was taken up with the last of the instrumental examinations.
Friday
After another Parade Band rehearsal on the grass, the students who had sat examinations
on the previous couple of days had to meet with Bandmaster Martin to hear the
results. I managed to get 78%. Not bad for just 18 months work. On completion
of this I prepared for a string quartet gig at Amport House in Andover. The
Parade Band would join us later to put on a display for the guests after we
had played. The quartet put on a good show, however, I'm not so sure the band's
contribution went as smoothly
