Musician Lawson 11 - 17 March 2002

I am Musician Lawson and I have now been in the Royal Marines for almost 2 years since joining in September 2000. Prior to joining the Band Service as a musician playing the Flute and Saxophone I was at school and I lived with my parents in Gosport.

Monday

On Monday morning I was on loan to Portsmouth Band to help out with a concert they are preparing for at St Mary's Church, Fratton, on Thursday 14 March. Rehearsals went really well, but I never realised just how tiring it is working with a trained band. As far as I know, everything was the same over at the School of Music.

Tuesday

I'm still working with Portsmouth Band. Rehearsals are still going well and I'm looking forward to the concert. A few guys from Top Wind (a woodwind shop in London) came down today and brought some flutes for the band to try out, they were very nice; it's a shame I haven't got £8000 spare!

Wednesday

This morning was uneventful apart from the rehearsals for the concert and in the afternoon I came back over to work at the School. While the rest of Training Company played squash during RT, I practiced hard for my Grade 8 Flute on Saturday. Practice is going well.

Thursday

I had this morning off due to the concert this evening. Lessons and practice went on as usual at the School and there was a visit from school children from Nottingham. I'm looking for ward to the concert tonight.

Friday

The concert went very well! I really enjoyed it and I think the Conductors were pleased with it as well. I'm back over at the School now. This afternoon we had rehearsals in the concert hall with our orchestra for our concert next Thursday. 1620 saw the start of the Section Commanders Course.

Sat & Sun

The Section Commanders Course continued throughout the weekend. This is where men and women get the opportunity to take a weekend course - including Drill, Physical Training, Kit Musters and many other things, to hopefully become a Section Commander (like a prefect) of Training Company. The Course finishes tomorrow, good luck to all of them.
For the rest of Training Company, it was a very lazy weekend, followed by lively nights out enjoyed by all.
