Musician Thompson 25 Feb - 03 March 2002

I am Musician Thompson and have now completed 1½ years of training with the RM Band Service. I joined the RM Band on completion of A-levels taken at the Woodroffe School, Lyme Regis, Dorset.

Monday

The day started with a circuit in the gym with CSgt Curry. This was the first circuit we'd had in a while and Musn Harwood with much enthusiasm manged to slip off a bench and sprain her ankle within the first 5 minutes. The remainder of the morning saw the second round of the Cassel Prize. This is a competition run by the School every year for the best individual performer. After lunch, the two Brass groups entertained us instead of individual recitals. Private practice followed and in the evening on completion of rounds, a group of us went out for an Italian meal to celebrate Musn O'Briens 21st Birthday.

Tuesday

Today was a normal day of practice for the majority of the school. The audition candidates began their musical assessments and from their comments some of them need to learn their scales! It was orchestra in the evening and we did some more preparation for our concert on the 21st March in Copnor.

Wednesday

Parade Band this morning was interesting. We learnt how to form lane and tried to perfect marching in a straight line! After lunch we had RT. Today's session was led by Navy PTIs, it was a light session of Tag Rugby over at HMS Temeraire.

Thursday

No PT this morning which was good as it meant I was fresh for my clarinet lesson. Normal practice followed until 1520 when it was my term's history lesson. In the evening, CSgt Hodge took concert band and surprised the whole band by finishing half an hour early.

Friday

Last day of the week! We marched around camp this morning and denied anyone with a day off of a lie in with our lovely music. This afternoon we had a harmony lesson with Mr Douglas and after practising for the rest of the day we enjoyed our well earned weekend off.
Good luck to the 8 finalists of the Cassel Prize:- A Imm, B Wooley, M Hearman, J O'Brien, S Wolfenden, A McKinnon, S Beasley, W Hairsine.
