I am Musn McKinnon and am currently in term 4 of music training. Before joining in September 2000 I had studied music at college in Cardiff for 3 years.
Monday
My alarm clock sounded at 0530 and that meant it was time to get up and brace
myself for another grim day at the office.
Today began with a period of PT with Sgt Griffin which was a 3 mile troop run
to Southsea and back. These sessions are quite relaxed compared to the circuits
in the gym but some even found this light jog a great struggle.
Ensemble rehearsals and individual lessons followed the PT and the evening was
spent preparing for rounds the following day.
Tuesday
The rounds inspection was fine. Due to some loose soundproof boxes in one or
two practice rooms, which fell from the ceiling, the 1st and 2nd floors were
closed for health and safety reasons so the whole of Training Company crowded
into any available space on the ground floor. I was even involved in a Brass
Quintet rehearsal which had to take place in the Gent's Toilets!
Wednesday
Today started with Parade Band at 0800. After a brief break, for rain, we were
able to go out onto the parade ground and practise our band drill and marching.
This has been going well in recent weeks. On completion of this, our Long Weekend
Leave passes were issued to us and the mad scramble ensued to get ourselves
off to Portsmouth as quickly as possible.
I made the three hour journey home to south Wales to stay with my parents where
I enjoyed great food and a couple of very, very lazy days!
