For once, this week, Bug Vyse managed to stay out of trouble. We're now practising for our forthcoming trip Iceland to help the United States Marine Corps during their Corps Birthday celebrations. With only have a week before we go to Iceland we have just found out we have to do a Mess Beating's while everyone eats breakfast at 06.30! We have just learnt a new static, written by one of the legends of the Royal Marines Corps of Drums Cpl Bug 'Jonah' Jones, for our repertoire called 'Apache'. We all like the new static and it is being used during our Iceland Mess Beatings.
Our Mess Beatings for Iceland will consist of the following: The marching solos
Conan Bridge, Portsmouth No 1's, Three Four Quick, Belle Isle (slow beatings)
and the drum statics Top Malo and Apache finishing with the bugle fanfare Rooster.
We all are looking forward to showing the final product to everyone in Iceland.
The mess beatings will be put together by Cpl Bug Chapman, loaned to us by Portsmouth
Band, who is taking charge of the Corps of Drums during the engagement.
Recently the Corps of Drums had assessments on both the bugle and trumpet, which
we all felt went well, and we are now eagerly awaiting the results. We are also
waiting to take our drum assessments while our grade 5 drum exams are very close
so a busy end to the term I think. The Troop will be taking T3 (term 3) exams
at the end of this term, it is always good to pass these exams because you get
Saturdays off!
The Corps of Drums of Troop 1/00 are all doing well with only one loss so far,
Bugler Amy Clark ("Hi Amy" from all of the troop).
Long weekend was excellent and I spent mine in Plymouth, Union Street soon ran
out of burgers & beer! It was an excellent weekend and great to get away
to visit family and friends. It is my 19th birthday soon and I will be spending
it on a train
travelling back from weekend leave - Happy Days!
So Goodbye for now from Troop 1/00's finest men!!
