The students of the Royal Marines School of Music fell in on the parade ground
at 0800 ready for Parade Band. This was our first detail after Summer Leave
and although the band had decreased in size, a lot of effort was made to continue
the sound of last year's band.
After Parade Band I returned to my room to continue practising the pieces Sonata
for Clarinet & Piano in F minor by Brahms and Concerto for Clarinet &
Orchestra Op 5 by Crusell, which Professor Kennard had given me to work on.
After lunch we went to the gym for Recreational Training and had a very competitive
game of 5 a side football.
Nobody wanted to get out of bed Thursday morning as we had PT. We went for
a run to Southsea, completed a 20 minute circuit and ran back again.
During the day I worked on clarinet and viola pieces as well as having a lesson
from CSgt Holman.
On Thursday evening we all gathered in the concert hall for Concert Band. We
played through some old pieces as well as some new ones written by Major Watson
the Director of Music Training.
Friday morning was Parade Band again. During the morning various aural groups visited CSgt Hodge for some singing, interval practice and melodic dictation, I'm not sure if he was impressed by the singing in my group! Twenty past four Friday afternoon and the weekend was here, well for some it was. Those yet to pass the Term 3 exams still had Saturday morning to go.
After an extra hour in bed on Saturday morning I finally got up and went to
work for another morning's practice.
During the afternoon I helped a friend move into her new house. It's amazing
how much stuff you can accumulate in just two years!
In the evening a group of us went to a local pub to watch the England V Germany
game
need I say anymore!
