Friday 8 June saw a sleepy start to the day for myself Musns Singleton and
Naylor who completed in the Navy Swimming Championships. The rest of the day
saw a clarinet lesson with the new clarinet and viola instructor Band Colour
Sergeant Holman, and the weekly lessons of aural perception and harmony with
Prof Douglas.
Saturday was welcomed by term II students, with a lie in followed by a half
days practice starting at 8.45 am.
Monday morning came around much too quickly, as always, especially for the newly
appointed members of the Naval Swimming Team who started earlier than the remainder
with training in the swimming pool of HMS Temeraire. The rest of the day was
business as usual ending with the weekly scrub for rounds!
Tuesday saw the clarinet section with bees in their bonnets as the monthly assessments
took place. Also, those taking Associated Board Exams had 'run throughs' with
the visiting accompanist Stella Starr. In the afternoon more exams, this time
an elements test for all in term two. The day came to an end with evening rehearsal.
Wednesday saw Parade Band for the band going to Italy but those not going were
excused! Whilst the majority of term 2 students continued with individual practice,
the rest of Training Company rehearsed their drill displays on the parade square.
The rest of the day was organised around an orchestra gig in Copnor, Portsmouth.
At last, Thursday had eventually arrived! After half day of intense practice
Training company were secured for a long weekend leave break. It was great to
get home.
