The week started with PT on Monday morning at 0730. Having only been back a
week since Easter leave, we all found it quite a tease, though we were now into
the swing of getting up before lunch again.
After a good long days work on a Monday, us trainees love nothing better than
to then prepare all our bed spaces, communal showers, toilets, corridors and
sinks ready for rounds the following day. All goes smoothly however and no one
is picked up.
Tuesday night saw us rehearsing a piece 'Etude for Band' written by our boss
Major Watson. In just over two weeks we are preparing for a gig at the Guildhall
in Portsmouth. It is to be a team effort with players from the London College
of Music and the students of the RMSM combining for the concert. The rehearsal
went well, although I've still got a bit of personal practice to do on my percussion
part, which has a tricky xylophone part.
Wednesday morning practice went without a hitch. Having started with Parade
Band at 0800, a few games of football for RT in the afternoon complete the day
(I like Wednesdays!). After the PT on Thursday morning, I began preparing myself
for my Prof lesson the following day. Thursday evening's rehearsal went well,
also working on a piece by Kit Turnbull (an ex Royal Marines Musician) called
'African Dances'.
On Friday, we had Parade Band in the morning, and then I enjoyed a good Prof
lesson looking deeply into the pentatonic scale.
Saturday morning found us practising until lunchtime, then at 1200 it was off
home for the weekend!
